a healthy dose of shenanigans to get the day rolling

I just had an epiphany; what if both having children and not having children are equally unfulfilling?

Let me provide the important context by suggesting that I may have had one too many libations this afternoon. In my defence, I’m on the A side of my two-week vacation, and such enjoyments are earned.

That said, hear me out..

I know what it’s like to be a single guy with no children. It’s awesome. So awesome in fact, that after a few years you don’t know what to do to keep yourself entertained at all hours of the day. Some days drift by without satisfaction that even Netflix and its infinite library can’t quench. It would seem that having the ability to do whatever you want whenever you want can take away any sense of urgency, and therefore leads to the procrastination of plan-making and inevitable boredom. In that sense, you can be left feeling unfulfilled.

On the flip side, I’ve heard that having children leads to a schedule so busy that you have virtually no time to yourself, leaving you with a feeling that you have no time in the day to get anything that you’d choose to get done. And thus, unfulfillment.

Are we predisposed to pessimism as a species?

I don’t know what to do with this information. I’m just a semi-silent observer recalling conversations past. Maybe we need to try to see the positive side of life? Maybe we all just need to vent every so often as the grass is always greener adage floats above our heads?

Or maybe I need to cool it with the beers for today.
